From a Bamboo iPad Case to Custom Pet Plush: The DragonMoss Story
DragonMoss didn't start with plush.
It started in 2010 with two good friends, Frank You and Mark Tu, and an unlikely product: an iPad case made from bamboo.
They cared about the material more than the market. Bamboo was beautiful, natural, and honest — and that was the problem. As iPads became thinner and lighter with every generation, a bamboo case simply couldn't follow. You can shave plastic. You can't argue with bamboo.
The product reached the end of its road. The lesson didn't.
What a failed iPad case taught us about materials
That early chapter left us with a conviction we still work by today: respect what the material can and cannot do, and never promise past its limits.
It's the same reason we occasionally decline a project even now — some details simply cannot be recreated honestly in fur and fabric. (We wrote about that in Why We Sometimes Say "No".)
From cases to companions
After the bamboo years, Frank followed his love of technology. Mark went deep into manufacturing, spending years running production floors and learning what quality looks like at scale.
Since 2015, our team's cumulative OEM and partner production experience has included more than 100,000 plush pet replicas. This is the production experience of the people behind DragonMoss, not a claim that the DragonMoss consumer brand itself has sold 100,000 pieces. Most of that work was completed as the workshop and manufacturing partner behind other established brands. Since 2022, the same team has also created custom pet plush directly for DragonMoss customers.
Today, DragonMoss is our own studio. The designers, cutters, sewers, trimmers, and airbrush artists you see in Meet the Hands Behind Your Custom Pet Plush are the same people who read your photos and sew your companion.

Years of making things by hand come down to four promises we can actually keep:
- Made directly by DragonMoss artists. No middleman, no outsourced factory. Your photos go straight to the people holding the scissors.
- Free finished-plush preview. Before anything ships, you see photos of your actual finished plush — not a mockup.
- Adjustments before shipping. We revise until it feels right. If after reasonable rounds of changes it still doesn't capture your pet, you can cancel for a full refund before shipment.
- Worldwide shipping. From our California warehouse and our workshop, wherever you are.
